Over-the-counter weight loss supplements are not regulated by the Federal Food and Drug Administration and they are also not considered to be drugs. The downside to over-the-counter weigh t loss supplements is the fact that they are not regulated by the FDA or any other regulatory body. Many weight loss supplements have no research to prove that they actually are effective to weight loss.
As with anything you buy, make sure to read the label and check what the ingredients are to be sure you’re not putting something into your body that isn’t right. Many times pills are packed with inactive ingredients and will not be good for you. You should consult with a pharmacist especially if you are taking other medications to make sure that there are no drug interactions between the tablets you are taking and the over-the-counter weight loss supplements you want to take.
Remember that whatever you purchase and put in your body should be treated as a medication or drug. You should never take lightly these pills just because they are labeled as supplements. Weight loss supplementation can actually interfere with other drugs you are taking or with other medical problems you are suffering from.
Even if your taking weight loss supplements, you will still need to change up your diet a little bit for it to be effective. If you do not change your eating habits then once you stop taking the supplements your weight will increase again and you might gain more than you originally lost.
Weight loss supplements should be considered as only one of the many tools it will take to successfully reduce weight and not as a magic pill.
